Stephen Stuempfle is the author of Port of Spain: The Construction of a Caribbean City,1888-1962 (University of the West Indies Press, 2018) and The Steelband Movement: The Forging of a National Art in Trinidad and Tobago (University of Pennsylvania Press, 1995). He received a PhD in folklore from the University of Pennsylvania and has conducted research in Trinidad since 1987. From 1995 to 2007, he worked as a curator at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida in Miami. Since 2008 he has served as Executive Director of the Society for Ethnomusicology, based at Indiana University in Bloomington.
